Afrobeat and Fela Kuti

Afrobeat is a combination of traditional Yoruba music ,Jazz ,highlife ,funk  and chanted vocals, fused with percussion and vocal styles, popularised in Africa  in the 1970s. Its main creator was theNigerian  multi-  instrumentalist and bandleader Fela Kuti i, who gave it its name, who used it to revolutionise musical structure as well as the political context in his native Nigeria. It was Kuti who coined the term "afrobeat" upon his return from a U.S. tour with his group Nigeria '70 (formerly Koola Lobitos). Afrobeat features chants, call-and-response vocals, and complex, interacting rhythms.
The new sound hailed from a club that he established called the Afro-Shrine. Upon arriving in Nigeria, Kuti also changed the name of his group toAfrica'70 . The band maintained a five-year residency in the Afro-Shrine from 1970 to 1975 while afrobeat thrived among Nigerian youth. Afrobeat is now one of the most recognizable music genres in the world and has influenced as many Western musicians as it has African ones with its exuberant style and polyrhythms.

Does Sex Still Sell?

Does Sex Still Sell? was  the article that really spoke to me. Trough the article I understood  why Singer or pop star dress sexy on the stage specially women. Expose body was the way to attract follwer and sell their product. It is kind of the new trend. Follower want their star to expose their  body. It funny to watch. I remmembered the author of the article said that '' This maybe good news for those female performers who chafe at the sexual marketing thought to be necessay for strong CD sales''.Nowadays sexy images are important for music marketing .While I was reading the article the question I asked myself why exposing body was important for showbiz. I also tough about what is going to happen soon; like singers expecially female singers will start nude show. I also tough about the value of women  and secret be expose on stage.

Cultural Identity

My father was a great teather actor not only that, but also a great singer and song writer . When I was young ,I use to see  him all lot the time in his bed room practicing acting or singing. I relazied the importance of what he was doing when I was 15 years old. I jointed a druming and become a good drummer.  With my drum band we traveled in lot of places and make people happy trough drum.   It was at 17 years old when I began writing song in african and french language. Nowadays my hobby it is to be a great artist maybe Afro-Pop singer because I have learned a lot from my dad experience. he was a great actor. Cultural identity is what left over after we forgot everything.

Popular Culture

Popular culture influenced me and still influnce me in many ways.First When I came to the US six year ago, I used to wear african's cloves, french dress in summer, and only wear  American cloves in winter. I  tough that I won't be influenced by American pop culture. Even when I was learning english I had kind of the British accent  I tough that I could keep my british accent  but in all I was wrong. Nowadays I dress like American , speak like American. Sometime  whenI tough about going to vacation , I always tough about how people will judge  back home for not reacting the same  as the old Fanck they used to know. I couldn't say that I'am in melting pot but of curse in salad bol. After five year in the United State every thing change so rapidely and quikly in my life. Some time when I'am having a conversation with costumers, their always tell me that I have a great accent. From African Frenchglinsh, I'm discovering myself  embracing the culture of the new land.

Since taking this class , I have become aware of how pop culture influenced American. American live true pop culture. Most of them like to dress like singers/song writer, comedians movies starts. I also dicorver how new trend affect people true mas medias. For example because foods industries  cloves makers, designers are awars about how pop star influenced people Their sold their item by using starts in publicities.
